71st Infantry, State Color. The 71st, nicknamed the "California Regiment", was recruited in April 1861, and is composed of men from Philadelphia, Chester, and Bucks counties. The regiment received its state color sometime during or after November 1861. In June, 1864, most of the soldiers of the 71st were sent home for mustering out, and those who re-enlisted were transferred to the 69th.
